Twenty Six Years of Leadership
The Alberta Fitness Leadership Certification Association, formed in 1984, is a not-for-profit organization dedicated to developing, promoting and implementing national standards for the training and certification of group exercise leaders in Alberta. The AFLCA offers certification in the following areas of group exercise leadership:
- Aquatic Exercise
- Resistance Training
- Fitness for the Older Adult
- Group Exercise Leader
- If you choose the Group Exercise Leader route, you must also pick at least one area of specialization: Portable equipment, Choreography, Step, Cycling, Mind/body
AFLCA certification consists of a minimum of 44 hours of practical training plus successful completion (pass of minimum 80%) of exams in exercise theory, group exercise fundamentals, and in your area of specialization. AFLCA Leaders may certify in more than one specialization. If you don’t find the answers you need then, contact us. We are glad to help!
All AFLCA group exercise leaders are also required to pass a practical assessment from an AFLCA certified trainer.
CPR
All AFLCA leaders must hold a current Heart Saver CPR-Level A (Some facilities may require a higher level of CPR and First Aid).
Registration
After successful completion of your exams and practical assessments, please complete and send us the certification registration form , along with fees, proof of exam, and assessment evaluation from your trainer.
AFLCA Insurance
Practicing within the scope of practice of the AFLCA certified fitness leader ensures that you are covered with affordable comprehensive insurance. .
Agency Subsidies Available!
Let your facility manager know there is funding available to get you certified. To support province-wide training, the AFLCA provides a subsidy program for agencies that offer certification courses.
