These courts primarily operate as "casual play" facilities - accommodating unorganized play on a first-come, first-served basis (similar operation to the Board's tennis courts, i.e. permits not generally issued).

Due to the high demand for beach activities and the limited beach space, the Park Board has developed guidelines for the use of beaches for organized league play. While the guidelines are designed to ensure organized volleyball has access to beach areas, they also reflect the competing interests for the use of beaches and the impact major volleyball events have on the surrounding park and neighbourhood.  The guidelines were developed in consultation with BC Volleyball Association, park neighbours and Park Board Lifeguards and Maintenance staff.

Volleyball Leagues/Events

League volleyball is only permitted at Kitsilano, Locarno and Spanish Bank Beaches. League play is limited to one night per week at Kitsilano and Spanish Bank Beaches with a maximum of 16 nets. Tournaments are limited to one weekend per month at Kitsilano, Locarno and Spanish Bank Beaches
